Firefighter Close Calls
At least once a month, we will ask you to sit down with your crew, access the website (see the instructions below) and pick an incident to review for safety purposes. The incident and safety topics they cover are wide ranging and are actual events that have happened to our brothers and sisters across the Country. The review should be fairly quick and done in a "tailboard safety talk" type format. So here is how it goes:
* Click on the link: http://www.firefighternearmiss.com/home.do (Please be sure to save in the "Favorites" on the computer once the link is accessed.
* Click on 'Search Reports'
* Use the drop down arrows to the right of the search criteria such as 'Type of Event, State, Department Type' etc etc...to assist in choosing a topic for review.
* Click on the 'Search Reports' tab located below the criteria
* Incidents with topic areas matching the criteria will be displayed
* Click on a report number on the left side of the screen to review that incident and discuss as a crew.
These instructions sound more complicated than the actual application. It is a very "user friendly" site with many 'close calls' that we can all learn something from. We are confident that you will find the site interesting and informative enough to visit more than just the one time a month required on the drill schedule.
Thanks in advance for your on going commitment to training and safety.
Tony
