Fireworks Safety and Prohibition

Many people choose to celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks. But fireworks can cause serious injuries or death if they are misused. That's why we strongly recommend attending a professional fireworks display because they are safer and have better visual displays that what you might have at your home.
The use of "Safe and Sane" fireworks in your community may be prohibited by local ordinance. You should check with your local Fire Department. Fireworks that explode, rise in the air or travel on the ground (like M-80, firecrackers, bottle rockets and roman candles) are illegal throughout California.If you decide to use "Safe and Sane" fireworks, be sure to follow these "Do's" and "Don'ts" so you can celebrate safely:
DO:
- Read and follow all warnings and instructions;
- Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks;
- Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry vegetation and flammable materials;
- Keep a water hose or a bucket of water within reach in case of a malfunction or fire;
- Allow a minimum of 40 feet clearance around the area where you are using fireworks;
- Only light one firework at a time;Light the firework with a long lighting device, such as a punk;
- Get away from the firework as soon as it is lit and if it doesn't go off, leave it alone.
DON'T:
- Try to re-light fireworks that have not fully functioned;
- Allow children to play with or ignite fireworks;
- Shoot any fireworks in windy conditions;
- Ignite fireworks while holding them. Put them down, then ignite them and walk away;
- Throw or point fireworks at another person, buildings or cars;
- Extend any part of your body over a lit firework;
- Confine fireworks being ignited. (Don't put them in any container to ignite);
- Use fireworks while drinking alcoholic beverages;
- Take fireworks apart or mix anything with their contents or make fireworks at home.
