Goal: To provide public education throughout San Mateo County through a variety of community outreach programs.

Objectives:

  • Organize and sponsor the 7th annual Stop, Drop and Roll Bike Ride;
  • Develop monthly media messages on local and seasonal safety topics and utilize local media resources to disseminate information;
  • Develop a guide for county media resources;
  • Develop fire extinguisher and smoke detector installation guidelines for consumers;
  • Institute a pilot NFPA Risk Watch Program at selected schools;
  • Provide up-to-date news highlighting the programs and events of San Mateo County Fire Departments;
  • Provide information on upcoming regional public education events on the website;
  • Revise website to provide on-line public education materials.

Goal: Develop county-wide standardized fire prevention policies/specifications.

Objectives:

  • Develop a standard turn-around specification for fire apparatus;
  • Develop a standardized fire alarm policy for large family daycare facilities;
  • Develop a standardized tool and equipment list for members of the Fire Investigation Unit.

Goal: Provide continuing Fire Prevention training and education to develop the skills of fire personnel throughout the County.

Objectives:

  • Conduct training at business meetings to include developments in new technology, field trips, (County Crime Lab., Warnock Hersey Testing Laboratory, Fire Master, OES), and local code issues;
  • Provide instructors to teach the Fire Prevention curriculum at the Spring and Fall San Mateo County Fire Academies;
  • Conduct joint meetings with San Mateo Building Officials and Santa Clara Fire Prevention Officers Association, Host the 2007 San Mateo County Fire Prevention Officers, Building Officials and the Joint Santa Clara County Fire Prevention Officers and Building Officials Meeting in October;
  • Continue to provide representatives for NorCal FPO's. Closely monitor Code adoption process and work with whichever code set is ultimately chosen to insure a user friendly document, Host the 2007 NORCAL meeting in San Mateo County.
  • Sponsor and/or provide at least one intermediate level fire investigation training class in the County. Suggested classes are fire pattern analysis, evidence collection, fire scene photography, through CCAI - California Conference of Arson Investigators.
